ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TALES OF TRAVELS
English abstract
Travel was a crucial element of ancient Egyptian culture. Traveling
activity attested for various professions, in the majority of cases, a journey
was undertaken within the scope of the traveler‟s work and on behalf of the
pharaoh. Ancient Egyptian literary stories provide information about
voyages, expeditions, and encounters with other peoples and places. Some of
these are tales of miraculous events when humans encounter supernatural
powers, but others maybe partly based on accounts of real events. Therefore,
literary sources provide both factual and fantastic descriptions of the foreign
locations to which Egyptians traveled. The actuality privileged relationship
between foreign travel and the production of literary fiction.
